Muskan Verma at PETRA III, DESY Hamburg — EXAFS on GaN and SiC

Muskan Verma spent 7–15 August 2026 at the PETRA III storage ring at DESY, Hamburg, recording extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) on gallium nitride and silicon carbide. EXAFS reads the local coordination around an absorbing atom, so it reaches the short-range disorder that diffraction averages away — the question being what swift heavy ions leave behind in the first coordination shells. Her first beam time abroad.
